The oxidation of long-chain fatty acids by the formed elements of human blood.

چکیده
IPID SYNTHESIS by platelets and white cells is veII established. White cells can incorporate fatty acids into neutral lipid and phospholipid esters.1’2 Acetate is incorporated into neutral lipids and phospholipids of human blood by leukocytes and platelets, but only to an insignificant extent, if at all, by red blood cells.3 However, oxidation of fatty acids by the formed elements of human blood has not been well studied. Since human leukocytes and platelets have mitochondria, they are presumably capable of oxidizing fatty acid. Circulating erythrocytes, on the other hand, would, a priori, seem incapable of this. Because of a report apparently demonstrating oxidation of fatty acid by erythrocytes,4 it seemed appropriate to reexamine this question. The present results show that the oxidation of C14 palmitate previously attributed to red cells was most probably due to the presence of white cells and platelets. This oxidation of fatty acid by white cells and platelets was studied in further detail.

Metabolic Effects of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Chickens: A Review
Chicken has been used as a suitable model for lipid metabolism studies, because dietary modifications especially dietary fat type can change chicken body composition. Fats act as a condense source of energy and certain fatty acids such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are required for both animal and human health. The n-3 PUFAs, especially, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic ...
متن کاملEffects of seasonal variations on fatty acid content of muscle in Pampus argenteus caught from Persian Gulf
Since fish have large amounts of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, they are considered a good source of food. In this study, fatty acid content and proximate composition of Silver Pomfret fish (Pampus argenteus) were investigated during winter and summer. For this purpose, the samples were collected from Bandar Lenge of Persian Gulf in 2016 and brought to the laboratory. The moisture, fat...

The anecdote "we are what we eat" in line with the doctrine of Hypocrates in 400 BC “Let food be thy medicine and medicine thy food” are vividly portray the importance of daily regimen in human health and body well-functioning. There is a growing body of evidence that suggests the relative intake of specific nutrients can have a profound effect on physiology of individuals...

The Effects of Simvastatin on Free Fatty Acids Profile in Fructose-fed Insulin Resistant Rats
Backgrounds: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disease and free fatty acids, as signaling molecules, can play a crucial role in the development of it. Different free fatty acids, through various cell membrane receptors, induce different effects on metabolic pathways and thereby affect insulin sensitivity. Simvastatin is a cholesterol decreasing drug prescrib...
